In May this year, Restaurant magazine awarded El Celler de Can Roca the distinction of Best Restaurant in the World. This plaudit puts the restaurant and its creators, the Roca brothers Joan, Jordi and Josep, up among the elite of global gastronomy, yet this is not the only achievement; it also puts the city of Girona and the creativity of our region in the top spot. The culinary gems that can be sampled at El Celler are an ode to traditional Catalan cuisine, a hymn to creativity and good taste without forgetting their essence or their roots. More than simply cooking, the Roca brothers and their team create works of art. Back in 2006, magazine said that their dishes "could be exhibited in the Guggenheim in Bilbao or the MoMA in New York.” And here at Joid'art we’d like to corroborate that statement. Their desserts, inspired by perfumes, their Festival menu and their wine list are the source of some unique and magical sensations. El Celler is about to complete its twenty-seventh year of operation and its creators want to celebrate with “El Somni” (The Dream), a culinary operatic project that they presented in London just a few hours after receiving the prestigious award for best restaurant in the world. It’s well worth visiting their website to let yourself be seduced by that dream which unites a meal, an exhibition, a book and a film. Bon appétit!
