BARO D'EVEL

Apr. 16, 2013 · Style

We love contemporary circus as an art form. For its artistic essence, its fusion of disciplines, and the latent emotion conveyed by each performer. The Catalan–French company Baro d'Evel Cirk Cie is an international benchmark in its field. And today, we would like to introduce it to you. Its latest show, Mazùt, was performed at the end of 2012 at the 'Mercat de les Flors' in Barcelona. Seeing it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, a wellspring of ultra-powerful creativity, which, at some unconscious level, has had an impact on our work. It stars the directors of the company, Blaï Mateu (son of the famous Tortell Poltrona) and Camille Decourtye. Both performers go in search of their 'inner animal', in this case a mythical horse, through a kind of ritual ceremony in which movement, the body and space take on another dimension. Theatre, music and circus intertwine. There are no boundaries, just creativity. The bodies become canvases for art to mould via master strokes, masks and clowns. A truly outstanding gem.
