OCEANICA - CARLA CASCALES

Nov. 16, 2021 · We like artists

The unhurried movement of the waves shapes the sea floor with a caress that is both fresh and soothing. A slow movement, inviting us to reflect on another type of art, one that has no frame or base, but that can be seen in nature: the fleeting sculptures drawn by underwater vegetation. The elegance and brevity of these shapes inspired artist Carla Cascales to create mobile sculptures, now redesigned in Joidart’s capsule collection Oceanica. With this collection we honour the extraordinary beauty of the sea and its reflection in the essence of the Mediterranean woman. Oceanica consists of six 24 K gold-plated matte pieces. Earrings, a bracelet and necklace in perpetual and graceful motion, bestowing the aura of a sea goddess on the woman wearing them.

Carla Cascales Alimbau is a Barcelona-born sculptor, and a graduate of the Pompeu Fabra University. Her work follows a minimalist style with influences of architectural trends such as brutalism, mixed with a strong Mediterranean spirit. Her fascination for the Japanese “wabi-sabi” aesthetics affords her work a concept of beauty based on irregularity and impermanence. Her work consists of a constant aesthetic quest for the essence of shapes and the balance of natural materials, highlighting their authenticity. The artist has held individual exhibitions in Barcelona, Madrid, London and Los Angeles, and artistic installations in institutions such as Matadero Madrid and La Caixa in Barcelona. Her work can be found in collections such as MACBA and the Masaveu Peterson Foundation. She also participated in art residencies in San Francisco in 2017, Florence in 2018 and Tokyo in 2019. At present, Carla Cascales is represented by Galeria Senda.
