WOOD-FRAMED GLASSES

Aug. 13, 2013 · Style

The coolest new accessory: sunglasses and near or distance spectacles, made by hand with a very unusual material – up to now – for these kinds of accessories: wood. The typical square-framed model of the 1980s is reinvented in a combination of design, nature and an artisanal manufacturing process that makes each pair unique. Brands such as Capital (California), Shwood (Oregon), Woodglas (Galicia) and Palens (Barcelona) are revolutionizing the sector with their creations. Apart from being handcrafted, these are sustainable glasses and almost all their manufacturers are supporting an environmental NGO or carrying out their own campaign to plant a tree for every pair of glasses sold, as well as guaranteeing that they only work with wood from sustainably-managed forests. This summer, stylists have been featuring them as an essential element of all their looks. You can find them in magazines, blogs, on TV and, most importantly, on the street. We can promise you that wearing them is an amazing experience. Anna from the Joid'art design team has a pair and never takes them off! They’re warm, comfortable and very much a fashion statement.
