SLOW CRAFTS WORKSHOP

Jun. 16, 2016 · Joidart

The Joid'art workshop is surrounded by nature. The fresh mountain air comes in through the windows along with the murmur of the River Ter. It's peaceful. You can hear children laughing in the distance on their way to school and the ‘good mornings’ of the locals as they cross paths. Life moves at a different pace here; it's more relaxed, natural. Inside the workshop the craftsmanship is as real as the hands of the maker of each creation. The materials are noble. The objects covered in a patina of age. The subtle smell of the furnaces where the lost wax pieces are cast pervades every corner. Time takes on a new dimension and it is then, and only then, that the silver and other metals are transformed into jewellery. It's a Slow Crafts workshop, where life is unhurried and each process advances slowly through its stages. Soldering, polishing, scratching, enamelling ... all done by hand, letting the jewellery stand for the appropriate length of time to ensure each finish is as it should be. Right now we are making jewellery for the winter collections we will shortly be presenting. And alternating with collections like Sandra, Swing, Esvelta and Lorna, for which we are re-editing pieces. Do you recognise them in the photos? Once made, they are shipped to the stores and the joidart.com warehouse. And then the pace changes. Everything moves faster to get to you still enveloped in the slow essence in which they were created.
